Today, I was copied on an email blast sent by Beverly Perlson, founder of the pro-troops organization, The Band of Mothers, and mother of a Soldier who served multiple combat deployments with the 82nd Airborne. She sent out the message after reading a recent post about yours truly being listed as a Top Local Author in St. Louis.
“Why is this news so heartwarming to me?” Perlson wrote. “Because I know of no other author who writes more in support of our Troops than Bob McCarty! Every American should read Bob’s two recent books, because what he writes about affects our Troops!”
Showing she had read and understands the critical importance of the subject matter of my most-recent book, THE CLAPPER MEMO, Perlson covered some of the basics of the book, explaining how the non-polygraph interrogation technology highlighted in the book has been proven successful in hotspots around the world and at more than 1,800 state and local law enforcement agencies across the United States. She also made note of two important facts: 1) the technology is prohibited from being used by members of our Armed Forces in places like Afghanistan where it could be saving lives; and 2) James R. Clapper Jr., the man now serving as our nation’s top intelligence officials, bears much of the blame for Fact #1.
Perlson also mentioned my first nonfiction book, Three Days in August, in her message. Published in October 2011, it chronicles the life and wrongful conviction of Army Green Beret Sgt. 1st Class Kelly A. Stewart on sexual assault-related charges.
“This brave and noble Special Forces Soldier’s life has been ruined over this farce of a trial,” Perlson wrote. “This book will enrage you and break your heart. I’ve had the honor of meeting Kelly Stewart, and I hope he knows what an honor it was for me to meet him. It is horrible and disgraceful what has happened to him.”
Perlson concluded her message this way: “Please forward this info to all your lists, read the books, and write and blog about them! Our Troops are up against so much and all because they choose to willingly fight to keep us all safe. They need and so deserve our support.” I couldn’t agree with her more.
Thanks Beverly! I’m humbled by and thankful for your support and friendship.
